Honoring Our Past, Serving Forward
The Smithfield Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered on March 6, 1999 by 22 Deltas who were committed to addressing the needs of the Smithfield, Isle of Wight County, and Surry County service areas. Today, the chapter is comprised of over 50 women who have consistently sponsored and partnered in meaningful community service programs throughout the region.
Over the years, the chapter has supported and implemented a wide range of impactful initiatives, including Voter Registration Drives, Relay for Life, Habitat for Humanity, Souper Saturday (Christian Outreach), An Evening of the Arts, Betty Shabazz Delta Academy, Red Cross Blood Drives, and Health Fairs. Members have contributed countless hours of public service in fulfillment of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust.
In addition to its service initiatives, the chapter remains deeply committed to supporting academic excellence among local youth. Through the Jocelyn P. Goss Memorial Academic Scholarship Award, the Trudi Blount Memorial Academic Scholarship Award, and the Annette V. Daniels Memorial Academic Scholarship Award, the chapter provides financial assistance to seniors attending Smithfield, Windsor, and Surry County High Schools.
The Smithfield Alumnae Chapter has also awarded book scholarships to deserving college-bound young men and women, further reinforcing its dedication to education, leadership, and community empowerment.
